Akosua Keseboa Darkwah teaches Sociology at the University of Ghana, Legon.    Broadly, her research interests are in the area of gender, globalization and the changing nature of work in the Ghanaian context.  Over the past decade, she has investigated the implications of globalization for Ghanaian female traders of global consumer goods, Ghanaian female factory workers, Ghanaian domestic workers and Ghanaian trainees for oil sector jobs. Over the last couple of years, she has turned her attention to women in leadership positions, specifically politics. Together with Gretchen Bauer, she is investigating the extent to which gendered electoral financing offers opportunities for Ghanaian women to enter into politics.  Together with Gretchen Bauer and Donna Patterson, she has a forthcoming encyclopedia entry titled “Women and Post-Independence African Politics.”
