About the institution:
Norad is the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation; a Directorate under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UD). In matters pertaining to the Norwegian International Forest and Climate Initiative (NICFI) Norad reports to the Ministry of Climate and Environment (KLD). Norad is working out of Oslo and has about 270 employees (2023).
The main tasks of Norad are to invest and manage grants in order to achieve development outcomes in partner countries and provide expert advice about development and aid to the ministries and foreign services. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) guide this work. Over the past few years Norad has managed about half of Norwegian foreign aid, and will during 2024 accept new responsibilities making it the most important body for Norwegian development cooperation.
Norad works in partnership with multilateral institutions, the private sector, civil society, and public authorities to contribute to sustainable development in partner countries. This cooperation takes place within different thematic areas and is by the end of 2023 organized in four different departments managing grants:
- Department for Welfare and Human Rights
- Department for Partnerships and Redistribution
- Department for Climate and Environment
- Department for support to Ukraine
Internship at Norad:
Norad welcomes internship students from UiB. We have varied and exciting tasks in a pleasant environment with skilled colleagues. MA students will be exposed to, and be able to participate in, a wide range of tasks and professional discussions. We invite internship candidates that meet the following criteria:
- Interest in international development cooperation
- Good analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
- Good at communication - written and oral, in English
- Interest, knowledge and/or experience in the type of subject, or the type of tasks outlined for the following six individual internship areas: Sustainable food systems, Green transition and low-emission development, Education, Gender Equality, Business development and Governance and financial management.
