About the institution:
The directorate for higher education and skills (HK-dir) has around 500 employees, approximately 120 based in Bergen. We are the executive agency for the Ministry of Education and Research within the higher education and higher vocational education sectors, and are responsible for the national skills policy. We advise the Ministry, we implement national policies, and we coordinate incentive schemes and management instruments. Among our tasks are contributions to enhance the quality of education and skills, strengthen international collaboration, and be a driving force for the digital restructuring of Norwegian universities and university colleges. We strive to enhance knowledge and skills in the population, make lifelong high-quality education and learning accessible to all and ensure that the world of work has access to a competent work force.
Our work provides a basis for the decisions made by policymakers, the authorities and businesses in important fields of society. We analyse current challenges such as the aging population, exclusion, integration of minority language speakers, and increasing social inequality. In addition, we look into major questions in the higher education sector.
Internship at HK-dir:
Through an internship at HK-dir, the student will gain experience in our daily work. The student will carry out work with reports and projects. Typical projects leading up to analyses and reports may include surveys and/or reports based on data from diverse sources.
The student will be given tasks related to different phases of a project such as project development, preparation of data collection e.g. survey questions, data analysis e.g. transcription of interviews, and the publication process e.g. finalization of reports. All in all, this will give the student an understanding of how departments of analysis within public administration work.
