Epidemiology and Prognosis in IgA Nephropathy

This project focuses on the epidemiology and the prognostic aspects of IgA Nephrology using data from The Norwegian Renal Biopsy Registry (NKBR), The Norwegian Renal Registry (NRR), patient records, and other public registries. Data from the NKBR includes clinical and histopathological data from patients with biopsy-verified IgAN in Norway from 1988, while the NRR provides follow-up data on patients reaching CKD5, starting dialysis, or receiving a kidney transplant.

The combination of data from registries and patient records enables the assembling of cohorts with long follow-up time, which is crucial in a mostly slow-progressing disease such as IgAN. The original biopsy specimens are often still available for further examinations, allowing histopathological reanalysis. Data from cohorts are also used in cooperation with researchers from other groups in the Renal Research Group
