Money Talks: Gendered Electoral Financing in Democratic and Democratizing is a research projects funded by the Research Council of Norway (FRIPRO).

Over the last two decades the idea that political representation is positively affected by diversity have caused an increased interest in measures that aim to correct gender imbalance in political recruitment. Currently 39 percent of countries worldwide have adopted a gender quota system to increase women’s representation. But there are clear limits to what gender quotas can achieve. To what extent are measures that uses economic incentives to change political action, such as funds targeting women and sanctions on party funding, viable alternatives or supplements to gender quotas?
