On completion of this course the students should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge:
The student has in-depth knowledge of:
- Core concepts and ideas in gender analysis and feminist theory, including intersectional and critical non-Western perspectives, and theories of masculinity
- Perspectives on and issues in gender and development as a policy field, including debates on human rights and empowerment
- The inter-relationships between current global challenges and gender (for example gender and migration and gender and climate change)
Skills:
The student has the ability to:
- Deal critically with various sources of information and apply them to structure and formulate independent scholarly arguments
- Critically apply key concepts of gender and feminist analysis to discuss empirical and theoretical problems
General competence:
By the end of the course the student has:
- The ability to coherently communicate ideas concerning gendered analysis of development processes both in written work and in oral presentations
- The ability to apply knowledge and skills in new areas to complete complex assignments

Open to all students registered in Master's Programme in Global Development Theory and Practice in the Gender track.
Open to master's students registered in other relevant programmes at UiB and Erasmus exchange students.Maximum of five places - must apply to and be approved by course leader before registration
Arbeids- og undervisningsformer
Obligatorisk undervisningsaktivitet
- Participation in compulsory group work sessions as well as guided and self-directed workshops and student-led lectures on one current gender and development issue (minimum 80% attendance)
- Individual oral presentation of a self-selected topic from the course curriculum
Vurderingsformer
Home exam (5 days, 2750 words) and adjusting oral examination.
