Forskning

Håland har i mange tiår arbeidet med humanøkogiske problemstillinger innen en antropologisk og kulturhistorisk ramme. Han har gjort feltarbeid en rekke steder i Øst-Afrika (f.eks. Sudan og Etiopia) og i Asia (f.eks. Nepal, Bangladesh, Kina og Thailand). I de senere år har han vært engasjert i a) problematikken omkring samspillet mellom globale og lokale prosesser i deres økonomiske, politiske og informasjonsmessige dimensjoner, og b) forholdet mellom moralske forpliktelser i personlige relasjoner og byråkrtaisk organisasjon arbeider han med i prosjektet ”The Janus faced Administrator: Between Homo reciprocans og Homo bureaucraticus. (China, Nepal and Middle East)
