NEW DATE: The solar collector facility at HVL

Boris Balakin will give an introduction and tour of the passive house at Høgskulen på Vestlandet the 25th of August. 

Abstract: Western Norway is stereotypically considered as a region with deficient solar resources. Most probably, this is why there has been never conducted any systematic research study on domestic solar thermal applications. However, the solar collector technology continuously develops and now we can harvest solar heat even in the very remote northern locations. Supported by UH-Nett Vest, Høgskolen på Vestlandet has recently launched a solar collector field, equipped with vacuum tube solar collectors and a concentrating focus-point collector; the nominal thermal power of the system is 15 kW. At the moment, the facility is used for in-house heating of premises and statistical analysis of solar collector operation at local weather conditions. The presentation will provide details about the rig, the statistics obtained so far and highlight the research activities planned in spring 2020.

The seminar will be held from 12:15 to 13:00 (we open the doors at 12:00), and the meeting place is at the laboratory (see directions below). It is free and open to all interested parties, so bring your lunch and join us for an interesting presentation followed by a Q&A session and a look at the passive house.

Directions: Attendees should go to the South side of the HVL Kronstad building  (for those coming on public transport, alight the Bybane at 'Brann Stadium' and walk down the hill). Walk past the Guest Parking and the laboratory is 20 metre further-on, on the left hand side.
