New Postdoctoral position within the scope of the MaPSI project

The Department of Mathematics (UiB) offers a 3-year postdoc position in the field of computational mathematics. The position is integrated in the recently established VISTA CSD.

The Department of Mathematics at the University in Bergen, Norway, offers a 3-year postdoc position as a part of the ERC Consolidator Grant “Mathematical and Numerical Modelling of Process-Structure Interaction in Fractured Geothermal Systems – MaPSI”.

The successful candidate will be part of the new VISTA Center for Modeling of Coupled Subsurface Dynamics,involving approximately 40 people including faculty, researchers and PhD students. Master students will also be integrated in the research activities.

About VISTA CSD

VISTA CSD’s primary objective is to develop fundamental knowledge and educate next generation researchers to understand how subsurface fluid injection and extraction results in deformation, fault reactivation and fracturing.

The center thus targets critical and fundamental research questions through mathematical and numerical modeling and data analysis.

VISTA Progam

VISTA CSD is financed by the program VISTA in the period from 1 January 2021 until 31 December 2025.

VISTA is a basic research program financed by the Equinor and executed in close cooperation with The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.

ERC CONSOLIDATOR GRANT 2020 Awarded to UiB Reserchers

Awarded to excellent mid-carreer researchers.

On 9 December 2020, the European Research Council (ERC) announced the winners of the ERC Consolidator Grant competition. That year, eight grants went to Norwegian institutions, four to researchers from the University of Bergen.

Four new PhD positions at VISTA CSD

The Department of Mathematics has opened three new PhD positions in computational mathematics, and the Department of Earth Science has opened one PhD position in mathematically oriented geophysics. The positions are fully financed and integrated in the recently established VISTA CSD.
