Aminoacid transporter uncovered as a possible therapeutic target in type 2 diabetes

Different cellular mechanisms may be behind the development of insulin resistance in obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Hovedinnhold

Read this publication by members of our group, where Jersin et al. reveal the functions of the amino acid transporter SLC7A10 in fat cells and its' low expression in people with obesity and whole-body insulin resistance. The authors have discovered that inhibition of this amino acid transporter causes decreased uptake of serine, leading to increased cell stress, impaired energy metabolism and increased fat storage. Reduced SLC7A10 function also increases fat cell insulin resistance, making this amino acid transporter a possible target in the treatment of metabolic disease.
