The Museum Garden
The Museum Garden was originally, Until 1996, the University of Bergen’s botanical garden. It has a central location, but with only 1.4 ha in size it has no possibility for expansion. The new Botanical Garden at Milde approx. 20 km outside the city centre, has a much larger area at its disposal.

The Museum Garden has kept its old exhibitions and functions as the Botanical Garden’s face to the town. As the Museum Garden for so long functioned as a botanical garden with main focus on research and teaching, the selection of plants is especially large and varied. It is the result of 100 years of development, of continual experimentation with new plant species. In the Museum Garden there are about 3000 different species. Most of them were collected as seeds in the wild in Norway or in other countries around the world, but cultivated types are also grown, both useful and decorative plants. The Museum Garden is really an exhibition of the plants that have managed to survive and which have been taken care of till present times.
