Muséplass 1
Since 1881, a number of notable people have come and gone in the large stairwell house at Muséplass 1, Bergen.
Hovedinnhold
The first was the builder Gerhard Sundt, one of the richest men in the city, and his family. 1936 brought the students from NHH (the Norwegian School of Economics). The author Agnar Mykle was one of them. In the novel Sangen om den røde rubin (The Song of the Red Ruby) he portrays Ash Burlefot reading in what is now the Rector's office, with a good view of the girls at the U. Phil school. In 1968, the University moved into the building.
The main stairwell with dark parapet and huge oak is still impressive in its original form. But in the rest of the house there is much that is new, and everywhere light is seeping in. New colours and designs play with historical contrasts, bright green chairs at an old fireplace, a worn door and a piece of authentic wallpaper adorns chalk white walls.
