Hovedinnhold
Based on palaeomagnetic data, one recent Rodinia model suggests a collision between Kalahari and Western Australia along a combined Maud Belt/Pinjarra Orogen in Late Mesoproterozoic times. The present project seeks to investigate this connection by geochronological methods. Detrital zircon cores are dated by SHRIMP and LA-ICPMS U-Pb analyses to establish the provenance of metasedimentary units from both regions. Additionally metamorphic zircon rims and monazites from the Northampton Complex (Western Australia) are dated by SIMS U-Pb analyses to better constrain the metamorphic history of the Pinjarra Orogen.
