Developmental psychopathology and behavioral and social development in children and youth

Contents
The development of social competence and the development, prevention and treatment of antisocial behaviour:
            - Developmental patterns and trajectories
            - Theories of behavioural and social development
The ecology of pro-social and anti-social behaviour
Risk and protective factors
Parenting practices, behaviour and development
Influences from siblings, peers and school
Evidence based programs and practices:
            - Standards of evidence
Longitudinal research on children’s’ behavioural and social development
Prevention and intervention exemplified by Norwegian clinical trials on family and community based interventions (Multisystemic Treatment, Parent Management Training) and school wide intervention of the Positive Behavior Support model (PALS).           

Objectives
Introduction to theory and principles of developmental psychopathology, research on risk and protective factors and their clinical application in clinical treatment and intervention models/programs. 

Ects
Completed course provides 2 ects.

Learning requirements
By the end of the course, participants should have the skills necessary to screen for risk of antisocial behaviour in children and adolescence and to develop and implement basic antisocial behaviour risk management strategies. Participants should also be able to outline a design for further studies that could contribute to the development of the field. 

Required prerequisites
Completion of Norwegian degrees as a psychologist (or equivalent education) and entry  into a PhD program. 

Description of learning materials and media
Prior to the course, participants will be provided with reading tasks (journal articles and book chapters) and copies of the Power Point slides for the lecture.

Norwegian or English (if non-Norwegian speaking participants) 

Teaching methods
Lectures, discussions and video examples 

Tutorial registration
The candidates need to sign up for the course 2 weeks in advance 

Compulsory activities
During the course participants are expected to actively participate in discussions of the topics presented and to develop treatment and research ideas. 

Evaluation
Evaluation of attendance at seminar meetings and completed reading of course materials. 

Assessment/ examiniation
Seminar participation, amount and quality of comments.
