Polar Network Event, Bergen, April 11, 2024 On Thursday, April 11, we had the first event of the Polar Science Network this year. The event took place at Mao’s Lille Røde (Det Akademisk Kvarter)  with two exciting and different perspectives of fieldwork in Antarctica. The first presentation was given by Elin Darelius about her recent fieldwork on the Fimbul ice shelf. She and a group of researchers stayed on the ice shelf for 50 days. The title of her presentation was “Eleven tents, one hole and one bathtub”. Her talk gave an insight into life on the ice during a field campaign and all the work involved in preparing, transporting and carrying out the science. After a small break we had a second presentation by Yngve Kristoffersen about “Polar research, a good idea isn’t enough. You also need logistics”. Yngve discussed the importance and difficulties of logistics in polar research and shared experiences on research in the Arctic Ocean and Antarctica using a hovercraft.
