The purpose of the BorrSci-project is to search for new biomarkers that can provide a better understanding of disease mechanisms and long-term ailments after neuroborreliosis. The strength of the immune response will be assessed both with reference to adaptive immunity (antibodies to B. burgdorferi) and innate immunity (cytokine and chemokine protein profiles). Gene profiles for different types of immune cells from patients who recover after treatment for Lyme disease, and from patients who still have clinical symptoms after such treatment, will also be examined.
