Espen Barth Eide, the Norwegian minister of climate and environment, visited UiB January 31st. Among other issues, he was given a briefing on challenges and opportunities with regards to the expected massive development in offshore wind in Europe.

Finn Gunnar Nielsen who has 20 years of experience within offshore wind, presented BOW’s offshore wind initiatives and emphasized the importance of further expansion of offshore wind developments, while Sigrid E Schütz presented the legal aspects within offshore wind development in Norway.

The presentations were followed up by a constructive conversation concerning the opportunities Norway have in offshore wind, for instance in terms of business development. Additionally, the importance of having a solid legal and economic framework in the areas that are assigned for offshore wind development was discussed.
