Jason Nelson, who has been an Associate Professor at UiB since 2021, has made contributions to the field of digital culture. His work spans digital poetry, interactive art games, and various digital creations that challenge and inspire. Before joining UiB, Nelson was a senior lecturer at the Queensland College of Art at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, and an instructor at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, USA.

Having worked across the globe, Nelson brings a unique perspective to his teaching and research. His creative works, which include digital poems and interactive texts, have been exhibited and published internationally. Nelson's art has been featured at prestigious venues such as FILE, ACM, LEA, ISEA, SIGGRAPH, ELO, and ARS, among others.

Nelson's research explores the intersection of interface, form, and interaction in digital literature and art. He is particularly interested in how unexpected experiences and hidden narratives can be created through digital mediums such as augmented reality and video games. His recent projects include developing art-poetry-narrative games and exploring the cooperation with artificial intelligence in creating artworks.

In addition to his research, Nelson is dedicated to fostering creativity in his students. He encourages them to experiment with various technologies and digital environments, pushing the boundaries of their creative practice. At UiB, he has been instrumental in launching a student-led online journal and arts space, which has become a vibrant community for creative expression. At CDN, he leads the Artistic Integrated Research node.

Nelson's work has garnered attention from major publications such as Wired Magazine, Der Spiegel, Liberation, The Wall Street Journal, New Scientist, Boing Boing, and The Huffington Post. He has received numerous awards, including the Paris Biennale Media Poetry Prize, Digital Writing Prize, and New Media Writing Prize (People's Choice). He has also been recognized with a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Bergen and a Moore Fellowship at the National University of Ireland.
