Bioinformatics
Main content
Bioinformatics focuses on development and advanced utilization of methods to organize, represent and analyze molecular life science data. It is an interdisciplinary field encompassing methods from computer science including pattern recognition, machine learning and optimization, statistics, chemistry and physics. Important challenges include handling of large, heterogeneous data sets of high dimensionality reflecting various aspects of systems or for example diseases under study. Much of bioinformatics can be seen as data science specialized to molecular biological data and successful practitioners, individuals or teams, combine practical programming and data analysis skills with theoretical understanding of the analytical approaches combined with knowledge in biology and medicine.
