This manual outlines the differences in sex and gender in cardiovascular disease and highlights how they have become a significant topic across cardiology subspecialties. It is now clear that biological and lifestyle differences between sexes impact the pathophysiology of heart disease. As a result, risk factors for heart disease vary by sex and gender, with men and women often developing distinct forms of the same cardiovascular conditions. These insights have a major impact on prevention and treatment strategies in clinical settings, underscoring the need for more tailored and individualized patient care. Additionally, women experience unique life phases, such as hormonal shifts during pregnancy and after menopause, which affect both individual risk and the development of coexisting health conditions. Given that heart disease is now the leading cause of death among women worldwide, more focused attention on cardiovascular disease in women is essential.

Target group for this manual is physicians and nurses with interest in cardiovascular diseases in women.
