Eirik S. Amundsen elected to a prestigious scientific academy

Professor Eirik S. Amundsen is one of a small number of Norwegian economists that have been elected to the prestigious academy, Academia Europaea.

The academy organizes conferences and scientific meetings, and provides independent, interdisciplinary and evidence-based scientific advice on policy issues to the European Commission through the so-called European Scientific Advice Mechanism.

Eirik Schrøder Amundsen, who is professor of economics at the University of Bergen and Copenhagen University, is one of five economists in Norway that is currently a member of the academy. The academy also counts 72 Nobel Prix laureates.

– I feel very honored by this election, Amundsen says.

Academia Europaea is a European based academy that encompasses humanities, medical sciences, natural sciences, social sciences and engineering sciences. Amundsen has already been asked by SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies) to contribute policy advice in connection with a study of “Food from the Oceans”.
