Green shipping networks and decarbonization of the shipping industry
Main content
Abstract:
The shipping industry has started its voyage toward zero-emission shipping. Decarbonizing shipping requires an industry transformation entailing changes to institutions, markets, and technology, and actors to drive and steer the transition: We need effective governance. The PhD project investigates how private and public organizations cooperate through formal green shipping networks to drive the transformation.
In the past decade, formal green shipping networks have emerged in several countries. This can be seen as a result of a “cluster trend” produced by innovation policy based on theories about innovation and clusters. A key advantage of network organization is the ability to disseminate and interpret new information, and this is what makes networks well-suited to cope with change.
The PhD project studies cases of green shipping networks, and how they in some ways may contribute to the decarbonization of shipping.
