Who can apply
Students in the Master programme Politics and Governance of Global Challenges can apply.
The grade point average from masterlevel courses at UiB will be considered if there are more applicants than available spots.
When can I go
Students in the Master programme Politics and Governance of Global Challenges go on exchange in the 3rd semester (fall semester) of the degree.
Language
The language of instruction is mainly portugese. Some courses are taught in English.
Candidates who intend to take courses at IRI-USP must prove that have knowledge of the Portuguese language at any level. For students who need to improve their skills in Portuguese, the Language Center of Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences (Centro de Línguas da FFLCH) offers Portuguese courses for foreigners.
What courses can I take
The agreement is linked to the Institute of International Relations.
The course "Climate Justice" taught in english and recommended to all students.
Each course at master level is 8 USP credits, and you need to tak 3 courses/24 USP credits to be a fulltime student. 24 USP credits equals 30 ECTS at master level.
Tuition fee
USP is a public university and there are no tuition fees.
Lånekassen gives an extra stipend for exchange studies in Brazil. Read more about this on their webpages.
Students at the master programme in Politics and Governance of Global Challenges can receive economic support through the UTFORSK project "A global classroom for global challenges".
Om lærestaden
About the institution and the city
Universidade de Sao Paulo (USP) er rekna for å vere det beste universitetet i Latin-Amerika både når det gjeld forsking og utdanning. Det er eit offentleg breiddeuniversitet med til saman 90.000 studentar. UiB har inngått to utvekslingsavtalar med USP. Hovudkampus ligg midt i Sao Paulo. USP har gode sportsfasilitetar, eit eige symfoniorkester to sjukehus og elles dei fleste fasilitetar ein treng på kampus.
Den eine er med Facultade de Filosofia, Letras y Ciencias Humanas (FFLCH). FFLCH har over 20.000 studentar og har studieprogram i dei fleste humanistiske og samfunnsvitskaplege fag som vi har på UiB. Det betyr at avtalen vil passe best for studentar frå HF og SV-fakultetet, men avtalen er open for alle UiB-studentar som vil søke på FFLCH.
Institutt for for politikk og forvaltning på UiB har inngått ein eigen avtale med Instituto de Relacoes Internacionais. Avtalen er retta først og fremst mot studentar på Master in Politics and Governance of Global Challenges.
Sao Paulo er den største byen i Sør-Amerika med rundt 12 millionar innbyggarar (19 millionar i area metropolitana). Byen ligg relativt langt sør i landet, 70 km frå kysten, og er den industrielle og økonomiske hovudstaden i landet. Byen ligg 700 m.o.h. og klimaet er dermed ganske behageleg. Luftkvaliteten er derimot ikkje den beste, spesielt om vinteren (august). Dei mest kjende fotballklubbane i byen er Sao Paulo F.C., Palmeiras og Corinthians.
Accommodation
Universitetet har ikkje eigne bustader for utvekslingsstudentar, men har eit tilbod med vertsfamiliar.
