Organisation
As a UiB Norwegian Centre of Excellence (COE), the Centre for Geobiology focusses on long-term research efforts of high international calibre and trains future researchers of geobiology.

Main content
The Centre for Geobiology (CGB) is part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bergen and is a collaboration between the Departments of Biology and Earth Science.
CGB research is primarily organised around six themes:
- Geodynamics of the Deep Seafloor
- Water-Rock-Microbe Interactions & the Deep Biosphere
- Life in Extreme Environments & Roots of Life
- Vent and Seep Biota
- Early Earth and Biosignatures
- Earth System Evolution
In reality research activity at CGB generally overlaps more than one research theme, as is typical in interdisciplinary studies, so CGB uses a matrix organisational model (see below).
Along with the Centre Director, the Centre for Geobiology is managed by a Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the CGB Governing Board
