Main content

The research group in physiotherapy has experience in researching the examination and treatment of some of the most common musculoskeletal disorders, such as back pain, neck problems, osteoarthritis, tendon injuries, shoulder pain, fibromyalgia, and wrist fractures. Regarding measurement methods, the group has primarily studied the reliability of pain threshold pressure algometry and the validity of real-time ultrasound scanning. These measurement methods are particularly interesting because they can provide important information about tissue changes and the degree of inflammation. The group has conducted numerous clinical intervention studies and systematic review articles evaluating the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic treatment methods in the mentioned areas.

Jan Magnus Bjordal is the leader of the research group in physiotherapy (2013-) and the master's program in manual therapy (2015-). He has served as the president of the International Society for Electro Physical Agents in Physical Therapy (2011-2015) and the World Association for Laser Therapy (2016-2018). Bjordal's h-index is 56 (Google Scholar). The research group has published more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific articles, including more than 40 reports of randomized controlled trials.
