Why did you choose to study abroad in Bergen?
I always thought that studying abroad is important since it opens-up one's mind a lot and teaches you to change perspectives. So, when I got the chance to spend one semester abroad I decided to give it a try. I always have been a huge fan of the Scandinavian countries. When I got to choose my preferences for my stay abroad I started looking up all the options I had in Sweden, Norway and Finland. Though, when I looked up Bergen and saw the surroundings I would be in, it would be the best choice for me. Then I started getting more and more into what the Faculty of Law had to offer in terms of courses and study environment. The Faculty of Law has a lot of very interesting courses to offer so that everyone can find something in their field of interest. I decided on taking, amongst others, for example, the course in EA and EEA State Aid Law, which was really informative and which I could not have chosen at my home university.
What was the best thing about studying at the Faculty of Law in Bergen?
The best thing about studying in Bergen was the atmosphere I felt. The professors were always engaging in interaction with the students and I always felt welcomed and engaged to learn and understand the topics I was taught in. Also, the Faculty of Law is situated higher than the surrounding buildings and, besides the library and rooms being really well equipped, you have a beautiful view over the surrounding area which made studying easier. There was always a helping hand if I needed something and, especially for me being an Erasmus-student, I always felt taken care of whatever question I had.
Do you have any tips to students who are concidering studying abroad at the Faculty of Law in Bergen?
Do not fear to ask questions! No matter if it is about organizing your stay in Bergen or something study-related: Everyone I met at the Faculty of Law was happy to help and the people were really trying to make things work if there was a problem. Also, the organization "Sammen" has so much to offer for students (they organize trips, they have fitness-centers, a climbing hall etc.) so you should really inform yourself about your possibilities there and maybe also engage in volunteer work. There are different groups at the university where you get the chance to meet many amazing people and can engage in e.g. groups for environmental protection etc.
It might be a bit overwhelming in the beginning with all the information and things you have to consider but just keep going: You will make your way through it and then you will have an amazing time studying there. Although you have obligations to fulfill and exams to write-take your time to enjoy this amazing time at the faculty and Bergen itself. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity where you can not only engage in interesting subjects but also grow mentally.
