A publication from the research group of Prof. Ketil J. Ødegaard on the use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for patients with treatment-resistant bipolar depression, was ranked on NEJMs top ten list in psychiatry for 2014. The work was published earlier that year in the renowned journal American Journal of Psychiatry.

The list of 2014 have had ”.. a sharpened focus on studies and reviews that can inform and improve the clinician’s practice of psychiatry”. The ECT work has been a collaboration between several research groups in Norway and found ECT to be a more efficient than classical pharmacological treatment for this patient group.
