Announcement 2023/24: Excellent Teaching Practitioner (FUND) at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design

The status of Excellent Teacher Practitioner (Fund) is awarded to teaching practitioners who have distinguished themselves through systematic and goal-targeted work related to educational quality and through contributions to the development of a collaborative teaching culture. Those who are awarded a FUND-certification are rewarded with a fixed sum of NOK 50,000 per year (based on a 100% position).

Merit of Excellent Teaching Practitioner at Faculty of Art, Music, and Design (KMD)

Appointment of Excellent Teaching Practitioners (FUND) is made based on an application and subsequent assessment by a designated assessment committee at the faculty.

Awarded applicants are given the title of outstanding teacher (ETP) and will be included in the Library of Excellent Teaching Practitioners, which consists of teaching models and related research prepared by (ETP) FUND-certified teachers.

Who can apply

Individuals, academic staff in all positions with teaching duties. 

Criteria for award

The application must be able to be assessed according to following principles of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL):

1. Focus on the students' individual and collective learning and education/development

· The applicant has a clear focus on the students' individual and collective learning and development in all their teaching activities.

· There is a clear and reasoned understanding of the connection between the teaching intentions/methods and their results

· The applicant works actively to establish relationships/ connections with the students and is aware of qualities in the learning environment, and invites and responds constructively to feedback from the students (in relation to their teaching practice)

2. Development over time

· The applicant has made a conscious and systematic effort to further develop the form and content of the teaching to support the students' learning and formative education.

· The applicant has ideas and plans for continued development work and further development of his own teaching competence and practice in the future.

3. Research approach

  • The applicant plans, maps, assesses, and modifies their own individual teaching practice regarding how best to support the students' learning and formation processes.
  • The applicant reflects on their own teaching activity in the light of experiences, knowledge, and practical approaches to the subject.
  • The applicant actively initiates and carries out research- and development-based education, such as making use of up-to-date and current research in the subject, and that the students make use of elements from the research process in their learning.

4. Collegial attitude and practice

  •  The applicant shares experiences with others and interacts constructively with students and colleagues to develop teaching and teaching quality.
  •  The applicant interacts with others through mutual exchange of experience, for example in discussions, at conferences and through exhibitions.
  •  The applicant contributes to fulfilling the University’s and the Faculty’s institutional strategic goals for educational quality

Application and process

The application deadline is 15 March 2024 at 24:00 and shall be submitted by email to sara.bjorneset@uib.no with a copy to Head of Study, Hilde Skare (hilde.skare@uib.no) and the applicant's Head of Department. 

The application (and attachments) must be written in Norwegian or English and shall be converted to PDF. The application limit is max 15 pages (including attachments), and must contain the following:

• Presentation of the applicant's pedagogical standpoint, and describe how this is reflected in the applicant’s teaching practice, with a particular focus on the needs of the creative and performance fields.

  • Documentation of work with the development of teaching, for example: peer evaluations/ reviews; participation, and collaboration in the development of programs. 
  • Listing an overview of the applicant’s own teaching practice
  • Attached teaching CV and other attachments relevant to the call

Assessment

After the application deadline, an assessment committee will be established and will consist of the Vice-Dean for Education, two members from staff from different departments and a student representative. In addition, there will be administrative support. The committee makes a recommendation for submission to the faculty board that will make a final decision. The applicants will be notified of the results of the assessment in early spring.
