UiB returns to the UN High-Level Political Forum
After an absence of five years the University of Bergen sent a small delegation to the 2024 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) to co-organise an official side event and participate in the discussions in and around the United Nations for two hectic weeks. On this page, we have collected information on UiB's presence at HLPF.

In the years leading up to the pandemic, the University of Bergen (UiB) was a mainstay at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and among the first universities to organise and co-organise side events with partners from across sectors at these annual forums. The 2024 HLPF brought a return of UiB to the corridors of power at the UN in New York, including an official side event co-organised by UiB, the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the research project Habitable Air, partnering with the International Science Council (ISC) and the Global Research Programme on Inequality (GRIP). The side event dealt with the topic of air pollution and how this impacts on climate change and public health, not the least looking at how air pollution impacts poorer communities harder.
Representing UiB and Habitable Air, which is funded by the Research Council of Norway, was a delegation of six:
- Associate Professor Kerry Ryan Chance, Department of Social Anthropology, UiB and Principal Investigator (PI) of Habitable Air
- Associate Professor Sarah Hamilton, Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion, UiB
- Postdoctoral fellow Kefiloe Audrey Sello, Department of Social Anthropology, UiB
- PhD candidate Felix Lussem, Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Cologne
- Research Assistant and Project Manager Wesley Maraire, Department of Social Anthropology, UiB
- Senior Adviser Sverre Ole Drønen, Division of Research and Innovation, UiB
