PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project is about modelling synthetic seismograms from a large-scale outcrop based on LiDAR-data. The outcrop is the Book Cliffs, located in Utah (USA), which is a 400 km long outcrop belt and are arguably one of the most extensive and well-exposed siliciclastic outcrops in the world. The focus area for this project is to model the non-marine part of the Blackhawk Formation, consisting of coastal plain- and fluvial deposits.
The outcome for this project is to get an increased understanding of the relationship between lithology, sedimentary architecture, overburden properties and seismic imaging. The motivation is that this can be used as an analog for hydrocarbon reservoirs e.g. in the Barents Sea and the Brent Group in the North Sea.
