  • Stereotypes
  • Attitudes to immigration
  • Diversity at work

Research interests: My research interest can be broadly divided into three areas. One line of research addresses stereotypes of a range of groups in Norwegian society and investigates the role of specific emotions in the relationship between stereotypes and discrimination. Most recently my work addressed the measurement of stereotypes and emotional prejudice, and intergroup relations between Norwegians and asylum-seekers hosted in Norwegian local communities. Related to this, my second line of research addresses attitudes to immigration. For example, together with colleagues Elisabeth Ivarsflaten and Susanne Bygnes, I investigated attitudes to immigration as a local versus a national phenomenon. An emerging research interest is how attitudes to immigration develops in childhood and adolescence, and if attitudes to immigration in adulthood can be traced to experiences in the formative years. Another emerging research interest is how people who migrate due to climate change are perceived in receiving societies. Finally, my research addresses diversity at work. I am interested in how employees perceive organizational diversity policies, and intersectional approaches to people’s experiences at work. An ongoing project in this third line of research is the “Diversity in Education and Organization” project. In collaboration with researchers at the Norwegian Police University College, I am studying the nature and consequences of diversity in the Norwegian Police.
