Ocean Science Diplomacy – Thematic Entry Point
As part of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance's efforts to promote science diplomacy, the University of Bergen has taken a lead on ocean science diplomacy within the alliance by establishing a so-called Thematic Entry Point on this.

The EU Science Diplomacy Alliance has organised its thematic endeavours into five so-called Thematic Entry Points (TEPs). As a global member of the alliance and as a world-leading ocean science institution, the University of Bergen has taken the lead on ocean science diplomacy on behalf of the alliance by establishing a dedicated Ocean Science Diplomacy (OCEAN) TEP.
Ocean science and diplomacy have been at the front in the latest international ocean governance initiatives (e.g., the BBNJ negotiations and deep-sea mining). This underlines the importance of engaging in Ocean Science Diplomacy. There is a long tradition for ocean scientists to engage with policymakers and with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14, Life Below Water. The OCEAN TEP aims to focus on the ocean dimension of science diplomacy to strengthen the EU’s global position in ocean-related matters.
