More than 200 people from over 20 countries had signed up for the symposium 'Why the World Needs Anthropologists: Powering the Planet' in Durham. The symposium is an annual event organised with the help from the EASA Applied Anthropology Network. The theme this year was "Powering the Planet" and aimed to explore how energy professionals and anthropologists can cooperate to design and deploy energy innovations that alter the world for the better.
From the Energethics team, Project leader Ståle Knudsen, Siri Lange, Ingrid B. Müftüoglu, Ragnhild Freng Dale and Oda Eiken attended. Energethics held a "Energy Hotspot" where we presented the project for the praticipants, in which created room for intersting conversations with participants. On the second day, Energethics organised a workshop called "Accounting for Energy".
During the workshop "Accounting for Energy", Ingrid, Ragnhild and Siri presented stories from the field to give participants material to discuss the role of accounting in the energy sector. The topic was how corporations’ non-financial reporting regimes work and how reporting affects the way in which the corporations go about their business.
Together we explored and discussed the role of corporate reporting, how reporting regimes work and how these regimes affects the way in which the corporations go about their business. Among the participants were masters students, post-docs., researchers and representatives from a Danish municipality.
Overall, an interesting weekend filled with good discussions! For more information about Energethics' role in this event, check out the review of "Why the World Needs Anthropologists".
Next year, Why the World Needs Anthropologists will be held in Lisbon, Portugal.
