Read carefully how to prepare animals and documents for export
Animals and organizing the transport
Important steps in organizing the shipement
- Researcher must inform the driftsleder about the intention to ship animals as early as possible
- Request for export must be made in PyRAT to identify the right aimals to be exported. If the shipement is about animals from the breeding at Dyreavdelingen, this must be agreed with the responsible person for breeding.
- The responsible researcher must contact the transport company
- When the time of shipment is decided, and no later than early in the week before, the responsible researcher must send a request to vetpost@uib.no AND fill in all the information asked for in this form
Documents needed for the export
Request for export must be made in PyRAT to identify the right animals to be exported.
Read the following procedure for issuing export documents
The export papers needed for an export of laboratory animals to an EU country are:
- Customs invoice
- Health cerificate report for the animals
- IATAs Shippers certification for live animals
- Intra trade certificate for trading in the European union and the EEA countries
Document 1- 2 will be issued by the Lab Animal Facility’s veterinarian. You will be notified when they are ready.
The researcher must download and sign IATAs Shippers certification for live animals
The intra trade certificate (4) must be collected at the local office of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) at Marineholmen, 5003 Bergen. The intra trade certificate is issued by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority as close to the shipping day as possible (usually the day before) because of time limitations of validity (max24 hours). We therefore do not reccomend shipemnt on monday morning
Note!
Some countries require additional certificates. You are responsible for contacting the importing country’s authorities regarding their legislation on import and if they need additional information or a certificate specific for that country.
You are also responsible for informing the consignee about the animal’s health status and get expectance from the consignee to receive the animals (in writing). The Lab Animal Facility can provide the health monitoring report for the animals so it can be evaluated by the consignee.
Shipment
You also need to contact the transport company and make arrangements regarding the shipment.
You need to order the shipment by the transport company at least one week before the shipping day, and the documents issued by the veterinarian at the Lab Animal Facility must be ready by then (the transport company required a copy of the documents to accept the order).
