A New York Times article covers the recent debate on mental health, where WHO and other organizations argue that mental health should be on the forefront of the international development agenda. A recent study in the journal The Lancet Psychiatry estimated the effects and costs of scaling-up of treatment of depression and anxiety disorders.
The New York Times asked associate professor Kjell Arne Johansson to comment on their findings:
“For a decision maker at the Ministry of Finance, these numbers would be a low-risk, high-gain investment,” said the expert, Kjell Arne Johansson, an associate professor of global public health and primary care at the University of Bergen in Norway."
