Nordic network on the third domain of life

Main content

The General Microbiology Research Group participates in the The Nordic Archaeal Network, involving a total of fourteen research groups working in the Nordic research area (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland) and beyond (France, Germany and the UK) with shared interests in diverse aspects of molecular biology (including virology) of Archaea. This domain of microorganisms, often referred to as the "Third domain of life", possesses both eukaryotic as well as prokaryotic molecular features and represent the most extremophilic organisms known. Representatives of Archaea thrive at temperatures above 100 degrees C and under other extreme  environmental conditions.
