Urban planning and place development

Cities, towns, and villages are under continuous change and are facing challenges related to population growth or decrease, migration, mobility, social inequality, and challenges related to climate change.

Main content

More than ever, it is important to face these challenges that both urban regions and rural places are experiencing. Planning can help politics balancing different kinds of functionality and environmental impact with social justice and good places to live. But simultaneously, we also see disagreement on development paths between experts, between experts and the civilian population and within the civilian population.

In our research and education, we study the complexity of these issues. We explore how planning and politics can face these challenges, and how we can contribute to the development of knowledge and insight that encourage sustainability, social justice, and welfare for the future.
