Main content

This paper focuses on a sixteenth-century fragmentary vernacular Irish law manuscript now held in the Royal Danish Library, Copenhagen, namely, MS NKS 261 b 4o. It discusses the fragment’s history and explores aspects of its textual contents, marginalia and materiality and places it within the broader social and cultural context of late medieval Irish law schools. Consideration will also be given to change and continuity in vernacular Irish law manuscripts of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.
