How do young people from Bergen relate to climate change, lifestyle, shame, and the Corona pandemic?

How are we supposed to relate to climate change in our everyday life? Should we feel ashamed for not living more climate-friendly? How does the global Corona pandemic affect our engagement for the planet? These were some of the questions highlighted in a school survey, recently conducted in Bergen by the CLIMLIFE research group. Against the background of the annual Climate Festival in Bergen (Klimafestivalen § 112 - Bergen), the CLIMLIFE research group arranged an event at Litteraturhuset i Bergen on Monday, 7th June, to present and discuss selected results from the survey.

After a welcome speech by project leader Kjersti Fløttum, research asssistant Jana Paulina Scheurer presented the survey's main fidings. A special focus was set on the question which climate-friendly activites the students already do or are willing to do to tackle climate change. Moreover, light was shed on how students think about the term "shame" used in climate debates, how the Corona pandemic has affected their engagement for the planet, and how they imagine the future in 20 years from now. This was followed by a panel debate, led by PhD-student Runa Falck, with postdoctor Ida Vikøren Andersen (UiB), teacher Christian Lomsdalen (Metis videregående skole), and Jana Paulina Scheurer as participants.
