Workshop: Narratives in the humanities and social sciences
12-13 June, associate professor Øyvind Gjerstad led a workshop at the Faculty of Humanities: "Narratives in the humanities and social sciences".
Main content
The workshop lasted two days and brought together researchers from Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
Associate professors Hans Geir Aasmundsen (UiS) and Øyvind Gjerstad (UiB) opened the program which consisted of a number of engaging presentations that explored narrative through different themes and formats, including the French presidential election, film and religion.
Merete Birkelund (Aarhus University) and Malin Roitman (Stockholm University) had made the trip from Denmark and Sweden respectively, and Milad Shaphary (former UiB), professor Kjersti Fløttum (UiB) and postdoc Ida Vikøren Andersen (UiB) gave engaging presentations that enriched the discussions.
Øyvind Gjerstad concluded the program with a paper on prerequisites and challenges for combining polyphony (among other things established with Professor Kjersti Fløttum through the LINGCLIM group) and narrative in the paper: "Polynarrativity": Combining narrative and polyphonic analysis to reveal intersecting storylines in texts".
The workshop was an excellent opportunity for the participants to meet in conversation and discuss ideas and possibilities for work with narrative in the future.
