The effects of sleep deprivation on soccer skills – an experimental study
The study investigates the effects of 24-hour total sleep deprivation on soccer skills (juggling, dribbling, ball control, continuous kicking, 20- and 40-meters sprint and 30 meters sprint with directional change) in a counterbalanced study design (normal sleep versus 24-hour sleep deprivation). In addition to testing on soccer skills, athletes fill out questionnaires and perform cognitive tasks during a night in the sleep lab. Circadian preference, sleepiness and sleep habits are measured.
