Based on a long-standing collaboration between University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital, Kamal Mustafa, Cecilie Gjerde and the team of Tissue Engineering Research Group in the project SFI PRIME want to change the way we repair damaged tissues, using stem cells to make new bones and skin.
Hassan Abdel-Raouf Abdel-Wahab Mohamed Ali defended his thesis for the PhD-degree at the University of Bergen on the 24th of May. The title of the thesis is: " "Stemness and osteogenic differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells generated in xeno-free conditions" ".
Friday 21. October Mohamad Nageeb Hassan has defended his thesis for PhD-degree at University of Bergen with a title “3D-printed Synthetic Polymer Templates for Bone Tissue Engineering: Bulk Modifications and Osteoconduction Assessment”
Group members in the Tissue Engineering group at the University of Bergen participated in PER-IADR Oral Health research Congress in Marseille, France, between 15 and 17 September, 2022. IADR is the world largest dental research association, and PER-IADR is its European division, and there were participants not only from Europe, but from America and pan-pacific Asia regions.

Prof. Mustafa presented a keynote lecture at the 28th annual EAO Congress titled "Are stem cells the implants of the future"
Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials 2019 Conference was organized in Långvik, Finland. The three-day conference was attended by some 100 people and 28 presentations were given internationally from Singapore all the way to Colorado. Conference also held a poster session showing 58 posters.
The first General Assembly of the EU Maxibone Project was held in Bergen from 11-12. February 2019.
Niyaz Al-sharabi, a postdoc in the Tissue Engineering Research Group at IKO received the ITI Research Grant for 2019.The research project is titled "Modification of exosomes derived from Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) for promoting bone tissue regeneration in vitro”.
