The Termportalen

Welcome to the Termportalen at the Language Collections - a national terminology portal! The Termportal gives you free and open access to Norwegian terminology within a number of subject areas through a single search engine. Queries can be made across subject areas, terminology resources and languages.

Main content

In Norway, there has long been a call for an initiative to establish a national term portal as a tool to ensure the development and accessibility of Norwegian terminology. This work is now well underway under the auspices of the University of Bergen. In the Termportalen, we are developing an infrastructure for terminology where as many as possible of the already established national terminological resources are integrated via a single search route.

The Termportalen provides users with free access to Norwegian terminology within a wide range of subject areas, and the goal is to gather as many existing terminology resources as possible in the portal while also expanding with terminology in new subject areas. Most term bases have terminology in Bokmål, Nynorsk, and English, while some term bases also have terminology in other languages.

In addition to the search page of the Termportalen, an editing application has been developed that can be used freely for registering terminology. Please contact us at termportalen@uib.no if you want to get started with terminology work in your field.

The Termportalen is part of the Language Collections at the University of Bergen, and the work with terminology is done in consultation with the Language Council of Norway. The Term Portal is funded by the Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Culture and Equality.
