Events this autumn – Culture Weekend, Science Week, Stones and Mysteries
This autumn you can find out fascinating facts about whales, mummies, stones, and mysterious figures. Bergen Museum’s Autumn Programme 2010 is now available.
Main content
On Sunday 3 October, the event A Round Trip in the Toolbox of Science takes place, a competition and a trip to research environments at Nygårdshøyden and Marineholmen. There will be stations on several locations, at the Museum, at Realfagsbygget (the Science Building), at Marineholmen, and at Vilvite. Meeting point: The Cultural History Collections, Bergen Museum.
At the Museum, you can learn more about how the scientists work to find out more about the various mummies, how to mummify a hen, and get a glimpse of the extraordinary restoration work of the whale skeletons that takes place right now in the temporarily closed Natural History Collections. (Please note that the guided tour in the Whale Hall is offered on a first come, first served basis as places in the group are limited.) To read more about the round trip and get additional information about it, and other things that take place at the Museum, see interactive web map A Round Trip in the Toolbox of Science and Science Week in Bergen.
At the Cultural History Collections
Due to the restoration and renovation of the Natural History Collections this autumn, the majority of the events will take place at The Cultural History Collections.
Halloween, Stone Day, and Stories from Egypt
On Sunday 31 October at 6 pm, Halloween/All Saints’ Eve is celebrated at the Museum. Then all is set to dress up, to listen to ghost stories, and other activities in a blacked out museum.
On 7 November, the following Sunday, Bergen Museum hosts the popular event, the Stone Day in collaboration with the amateur geologist society “Bergen og omegn geologiforening”.
On Sunday 14 November, the event Stories from Egypt is launched, where the Museum collaborates with the society “Norsk egyptologisk selskap”. This gives you a chance to learn more about Egyptian culture.
