Yuhe Zhang is joining the CSD
Yuhe Zhang is a new Ph.D. student at the Department of Mathematics and her project is part of the Center for Modeling of Coupled Subsurface Dynamics. We met her to find out more about his background and the project.

Welcome to the University of Bergen Yuhe!
Thank you! I'm excited to join the CSD team.
Can you tell us a bit about your background?
I started studying at the University of Bergen two years ago. Last December, I got my master's degree in applied mathematics. I wrote my master's thesis under the supervision of Jan Nordbotten and Erik Hanson. In my thesis, we identified grain size distribution from geological images of CO2 storage experiments.
Why did you choose to pursue a PhD?
After returning to campus from work, I have always been thinking about this. During my master's research, I developed a strong interest in problem-solving. This feeling of accomplishment makes me happy to continue the academic journey.
Your PhD project is part of the CSD, can you tell us a little bit about your project?
My project is part of the GeoLit project, which aims to develop mathematical and numerical models for geothermal lithium co-production. My work will focus on the low-enthalpy system, and the model will couple single-phase flow, heat transfer, and reactive transport. I look forward to working on this project under the supervision of Inga Berre, Eirik Keilegavlen and Eoghan Reeves!
