Old Age and Ageing in Medieval Iceland

Old Age and Ageing in Medieval Iceland
This paper focuses on two aspects regarding growing old in the Icelandic medieval society c. 900-1500. The first one will be on the system that was developed to look after old and poor people, here will the role of local communities (hreppr) and parish churches be discussed. The second part of the paper will focus on attitudes towards old people.
This session will take place in hybrid format, both via Zoom and on campus at UiB.
