Location: Bergen

About the institution:

NORCE is an independent research institute that conducts research to facilitate informed and sustainable choices for the future.

NORCE was founded in 2017 to create a powerhouse for research that will lead the way in innovation, value creation, and research. NORCE is one of Norway’s largest independent research institutes, with around 1000 employees from around the world. NORCE delivers research and innovation in the fields of social science, health care, climate change, sustainable energy transition, environmental challenges, and addresses key societal challenges while contributing to value creation on the local, national and global levels.

Within NORCE Health& Social Science we provide research-based knowledge that can be applied to the sustainable development of society. We help to understand and explain the complex societal challenges that Norway and the world will face going forward. We examine changes in present-day Norway as they happen. This provides a basis for the decisions made by policymakers, the authorities and businesses in important fields of society. We conduct research into the realignment of the public sector, democracy and trust, public services and the voluntary sector. We also conduct research into current challenges such as the aging population, exclusion, integration of minority language speakers, and increasing social inequality. In addition, we offer research on innovation and changes in working life, public safety, climate change, environmental impacts, regional business development and Arctic communities.

Internship at NORCE:

Through an internship at NORCE Health & Social Sciences, the student will gain experience in the daily operations of a research institution. Under the guidance of Research Professor Sveinung Arnesen, a political scientist leading our research within the priority area Democratic Behavior and Governance, the student will carry out work connected to our ongoing and planned research projects.

The student will be given tasks related to different phases of a project such as project development (grant proposals), preparation of data collection (e.g. survey questions), data analysis (e.g. transcription of interviews), and the publication process (e.g. finalization of reports). This will be covered by including the student in different projects. The student will also be invited to both research group and project meetings, possibly also invited to present her/his own master project. All in all, this will give the student an understanding of how research projects are developed, organized and managed.
