Prosjektbeskrivelse

The Solund-Stavfjord Ophiolite Complex was formed in the transition Ordovician-Silur (c.443 Ma) and is the youngest of several complexes described within the upper allochthon of the Norwegian Caledonians. The hypothesis is that in areas of high hydrothermal activity during the formation of the complex, extensive mineralization has been ongoing, which led to enrichment of various metals. Such areas are meant to be demonstrated in the transition between sheeted dykes and pillow lava, as well as in shear zones formed at the oceanic stage during formation. I will focus on the mineralization in transition zones between sheeted dykes and pillow lava in the Grimelid area, as well as make data searches in other parts of the complex that may be relevant. Sampling and geochemical analyzes, together with detailed mapping, will lay the foundation for a final conclusion in the thesis.
