Strengthening the Norway-Bhutan academic collaborations

Long term networks through the Kolaas’ engagement in Bhutan has given new opportunities for exchange in acadmic training and Research.

Global Mental Health Research Group (GMHRG) members, Professor David L. Sam and Professor Ingunn Marie S. Engebretsen and Norwegian colleagues on partnership visit to Bhutan.

Building on the long term collaboration between the GMHRG-member Solveig Kolaass and Buthanese partners, the GMHRG has initiated a academic collaboration in mental health with partners in Bhutan. This initiation was facilitated by UiB’s SPIRE-support.

Kheshar Gyalpo (JG) University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB), Faculty of Nursing and Public Health is the main teaching institution in health sciences in Bhutan. Our research group were visited by Dr Neyzng Wangmo representing the The Medical Education Centre for Research Innovation and Training (MECRIT) 4 May 2018.

The GMHRG group visited Bhutan for the 4th International Conference on Medical and Health Sciences 2018 and joint in strategic collaboration discussions with the Ministry of Health and KGUMSB research and education leadership the follwoing days.

Both Professor Sam and Professor Engebretsen held oral presentations on the titles: «Climatic effects on the acculturation of internal migrants: A longitudinal test of two competing perspectives» and «Understanding the role of nutrition in child development», respectively.
