Innovation camp: marine spatial planning (SDG#14)
The two-day workshop is organised in conjunction with the 2019 SDG Conference Bergen on February 7-8.
Hovedinnhold
Dates: 5-6 February, 2019
Venue: Marineholmen Makerspace, Thormøhlensgate 41

This two-day innovation workshop is for university students (Bachelor, Master or PhD) from marine and/or maritime disciplines and related studies, but also for students coming from other backgrounds. The workshop will challenge students to think about how we plan exploitation of resources in the oceans in a sustainable way whilst using innovation methods in practice.
Ted talker and super maker from Makerbay Hong Kong, Cesar Jung-Harada, will lead participants through the two-day long process. Co-facilitator will be Susan Johnsen, senior advisor for innovation at UiB, and Trygve Trohaug from Marineholmen makerspace, while mentors from academia and industry will be present to help students.
Outcome: Participants will present their results at the reception of the 2019 SDG conference Bergen on the evening of February 6th.
Please note: Places are limited so in case of overbooking, candidates will be selected on the base of study program, home institution and gender. Selected students will be notified by email shortly after the deadline.

What is Marine Spatial Planning?
The seas are getting congested due to human activities (fisheries, aquaculture, oil extraction, maritime transport, waste disposal, dredging, wind farms, cables/pipelines, etc) and conflicts of interest are arising. Only healthy seas and oceans that are managed in a sustainable way will contribute to economic growth.
Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) ensures the coexistence between human activities and the protection of ecosystem services. MSP plays a major role in global Ocean Governance and as such, it will contribute to the implementation of the UN Agenda 2030, such as the Sustainable Development Goal #14: Life under water.
